How I Work
I specialize in working with people experiencing anxiety and depression. However, I see clients with a wide variety of difficulties, including perfectionism, procrastination, family and relationship concerns, self-esteem, and trauma. Additionally, I often work with college students, clients with a diverse range of sexual orientations and gender identities, and clients considering or practicing non-monogamy.
I work from psychodynamic and humanistic perspectives. This means that I will help you explore the ways your past experiences and relationships may affect your current ones, allowing you to change the patterns in your life that are not working for you. I will also work with you as a whole and multifaceted person; with strengths, challenges, and complexities; not just a collection of problems or symptoms to be treated.
As a supplement to the other work we do in therapy, I often help clients learn cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness skills. These techniques can help you feel better quickly and may have powerful, positive ripple effects in other parts of your life.I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from Pacific University and completed my postdoctoral training at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I have practiced both research and therapy with a variety of clients in university and community clinics in Oregon and Illinois.
